Wiley - Summertime

Rapper, producer and MC legend - Wiley is officially taking over the weather with the release of the brand new single, Summertime, out via Asylum Records. Calling for an extension to this year's summer, the east London native declares, "I've had enough of moaning about how rubbish our summer is. With this single, it's all about brightening up our autumn".

Featuring Mark Ronson and Pharrell protégé Kenna, the addictive, carefree anthem celebrates the sunshine season over Daft Punk's Aerodynamic. Produced by Jake Gosling and DJ Sam Young, it has been a highlight of this year's festival circuit, from crowds in Ibiza to wowing audiences on the Jay Z tour with Mark Ronson. Summertime is already heating up the airwaves at Radio 1Xtra, Kiss and Choice FM whilst the energetic video is enjoying massive support from MTV Base, Hits, The Box and Kiss TV. It is the second track lifted from the hotly anticipated album, I See Clear.

Summertime follows hot on the heels of the silver certified No.2 smash hit, Wearing My Rolex. A massive statement of intent, it signaled Wiley's move beyond grime (the underground street sound and scene he has guided since its inception from the dying embers of blingy UK garage in the late 1990's/early 2000's) and has sold more than 200,000 copies to date.

"I can make any music I want and people can judge it. You can't just be limited to one type of sound", says Wiley reflecting on the direction of his forthcoming material. Working with such artists as Mark Ronson, Prodigy and Hot Chip, he says, "What I've learned is the more open minded you are, the more open-minded people accept you".

Whether creating genre-defining classics like Wearing My Rolex or bringing the Rolex Sweep dance craze to the world's attention, Wiley continues to step to the plate. From his early jungle days to date, it is simply impossible to overstate the importance that Wiley has had on UK urban music. This enigmatic MC and prolific producer has more than earned the title of Godfather of Grime and is arguably the most influential musician from Grime's spiritual home of Bow E3.
